Course Information
Reflexology
The course comprises of 10 Saturdays held from April to November every 3 to 4 weeks. (see dates) classes start prompt at 10 am - 5.30 pm.
This course involves both theory and practical. Homework is in the form of written work to show evidence of further reading/research. Practical work involves each student treating 10 clients 4 times each i.e. 40 treatments.
No previous experience is necessary as full instruction and guidance will be given throughout the course.
The course involves the following:
- Contra indications - possible client/patient reactions to treatment
- The History, Theory and Philosophy of Reflexology
- Techniques of Reflexology
- Concepts and theories as to how and why it works
- Therapy procedure and Techniques
- Zones and their relationship to organs and functions
- The feet as a reflection of the body
- Philosophy of Complementary Medicine, comparisons/contrasts to allopathic medicine.
- An introduction to other Natural Therapies (Herbalism, Homeopathy, Aromatherapy, etc)
- The holistic approach - treating the whole person
- Integral Biology (i.e. how health is affected by environment and social factors)
- Hand Reflexology techniques: when applicable
Exam
Practical. Students are examined by an I.T.E.C. external examiner throughout a full treatment.
Theory - 1 hour multiple choice question paper comprising of 50 questions.

Anatomy and Physiology
The course starts in January (see dates) and is held on alternative Sundays from 9.45 - 2.00 pm. The course lasts 6 months in total with 12 classes. Students will receive a minimum of 50 hours in tuition, studying the following:
- The Cell and Tissue Types
- The Skin
- Skeletal System
- Muscular System
- Circulatory System
- Lymphatic System
- Nervous System
- Endocrine System
- Reproductive System
- Digestive System
- Respiratory System
- Urinary System
The final class will be a mock paper to fully prepare students for the exam.

Business Awareness and Professional Conduct
This topic is to be taught to every I.T.E.C. student no matter which complementary therapy they are learning. Classes will run over 2 Saturday mornings and a mock exam will be held on a 3rd Saturday (see dates) Students will study the following:
- Setting up and running a business i.e. Where will you work, account keeping, legalities etc.
- Professionalism: Personal and service provided
- Improving practitioner techniques - being reflective and ethical
- Working with other therapists and the medical profession
- Communication with clients
- Health and Safety
- Data Protection
- First Aid
- Infection and Hygiene
- Sterilization and waste disposal
